BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

From a very humble beginning, the Midwifery Training College, Tumu has become one of the most well-structured, organized and resourced Health Training Institutions in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

Established by the Government of Ghana under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, the college became operational in the last quarter of the year 2011 and admitted its first batch of fifteen (15) students for the 2011/2012 academic year. The college at its inception ran only the Post Basic Midwifery Programme which is now the Post NAC/NAP Midwifery Programme.

The school operated for the first two years at multiple locations due to lack of a well-established infrastructure. The first batch was accommodated in a three bedroom self-contain house belonging to the District Health Administration and the students had lectures and other academic activities in the living room of the same structure.

The District Hospital offered a single-room office from which all the administrative staff including the Principal operated from.

In September 2013, the school relocated to its permanent site after the Sissala East District Assembly constructed a one-storey 12 unit lecture room block for the College. There has since been several additions to the infrastructural base of the college giving rise to a beautiful college campus which provides a very conducive learning environment for our students
